Christmas Party! Millitimed Vaguely to "Sometime Around Christmas"

Anne and Amy have been very very busy over the last week or so, transforming their usually simple white room into the perfect place for a Christmas party.

There are garlands of holly and balsam strung around the room, leading away from the wreath between the windows (and there's a grumpy looking crow, perched in the middle of the wreath, trying to figure out how to get the red ribbon from around his neck). A Christmas tree, candles ablaze, stands in one corner, with presents tucked under its branches.

Welcome, dear friend, to Anne and Amy's Christmas party.

"Hi, princess," Logan says, beaming at her. "Looks like your tree might be in some jeopardy."

Logan gets a hug. After all, it's Christmas.

"Welcome and merry Christmas, Logan," she say, cheerfully. "I'm glad you could come. And I think the tree will survive."

She eyes Simon Perryvall warily. "At least, I hope it will."

Logan's happy to be hugged by Amy. There's a distinct dearth of affection in his life.

"Merry Christmas yourself. If the tree doesn't survive, there are enough, you know-" he wiggled his fingers at her to demonstrate - "Magic people around to fix it."

"This is true. So long as the squirrels don't set themselves, or anything else, on fire, I think we'll manage. How are you tonight, Logan?"

[obligatoryass]

"Cheery," Logan says, grinning, and he does look it. The Christmas melancholy hasn't had a chance to set in, you see. "How couldn't I be, with two gorgeous girls throwing a fabulous party, with countless cookies?"

[kitchen_maid]

"Well, since you put it that way, then I don't think there's any way at all you couldn't be. Though I am relying on you to inform me at once if I've made any cookie oversights."

[obligatoryass]

"I take my job very seriously," Logan says. "Have you seen any oatmeal raisin picketers yet?"

[kitchen_maid]

"Not yet, but I suppose you never know when they might strike."

In point of fact, there are no oatmeal raisin cookies.

She grins at him.

"Would you like your present now or later?"

"It's your party," Logan says, grinning back. "You pick."

[kitchen_maid]

"Now, then, I think," she says, and produces a red-paper wrapped bundle.

"To protect you from the squirrels, in snowball fights. Merry Christmas."

It's a scarf, which Amy has made out of very soft dark green wool.

Logan runs his hand along it, smiles. It's a strangely vulnerable smile of almost pure pleasure, one he doesn't get much chance to show anymore. "It's beautiful," he says quietly. "Thank you."

He also produces a bundle himself.

It's also a scarf, the blue one, and while he didn't make it, he searched very hard for just the right thing.

"We had much the same thought, I think."

Amy beams. "Oh, Logan, it's gorgeous. Thank you. It's going to perfect for keeping squirrels, and older brothers, from dropping snow down the back of my neck."

He gets another hug before she drapes it experimentally around her neck.

"Suits you," he says, grinning. "I thought it might. I got a green one for Anne, since she is no doubt also in need of extra protection."

He drapes his scarf around his neck as well and laughs. "Don't we look awesome? Total red carpet material right here."

[kitchen_maid]

"Red carpet" may not have quite the same meaning in Amy's world, but it's awfully close.

"We look marvelous," says Amy, brightly. "And we shall have to get everyone together soon and see if these scarves are up to protecting us in a good and proper snowball fight."

"Absolutely," he says. "I'm going to leave you to your hostess duties, milady, but I'm sure I'll see you again this fabulous evening. Have fun!"

"Thank you, Logan. And do let me know if there are any problems with the cookies."

[obligatoryass]

Logan salutes. "Yes, general princess ma'am!"

He wanders off to inspect said cookies.
