Keep Meg & Amy From Cooking Party

There are streamers over the door and glitter is flung generously (if randomly) about over countertops. (To be on the safe side, the girls have used edible glitter, like that on the cookies they handed out as invitations.)

There are large signs posted above the stoves and ovens with picture of Meg and Amy and the words "NOT ALLOWED" in large and bright red letters below them.

It can only mean one thing.

There's a party in the kitchen, and someone has got to keep these girls from cooking.

"Well, good to know it's their standards and not yours that are keeping the happy couples together."

Trina has dated some people who wouldn't have minded forcing her to kiss them.

She has not discussed that fact with her little brother.

She should not discuss this with Logan. It would make him cranky, and the mun cannot handle this now.

"Yeah, well, someone's got to have them, or society will fall apart," Logan says. "I don't feel my job involves that sort of thing, though."

She's not stupid. And there are things one's seventeen year old brother just doesn't need to know.

Like when you're going to be appearing in Playboy.

"Involves what sort of thing? Having standards, or causing society to fall apart?"

"Standards," Logan says. "Society can go fuck itself."

It's done him no favors lately, after all.

"Yeah, it can, but the sooner you figure out that it never will, the better, Sweetie."

Society will, alas, always be there.

Unfortunately true. Even if it's a crumbled broken society, somehow, it'll still exist.

"I just don't have any stock in upholding it, that's all. And I'm okay with that."

Logan takes a deep, shaky breath. That was unexpected.

"Won't," he says quietly. "I mean, I don't plan on it. Kay?"

"Good. Because I'd really hate to ever have to sell The Logan Echolls Story. You know, assuming anyone would buy it."

It's the closest she can come to saying "I worry about you."

"I think I need a drink."

"It'd never sell," Logan says, grinning. "I promise, it would be unbelievably unprofitable. I'll try to skip it, thanks."

It's the closest he'll come to saying that he gets that she's worried.

"I think you're probably right. I could too, if you're offering."

"Hell, I'll even order you something that isn't pink."

It's almost inevitable that their threads end with booze, after all.

It's the one language they can speak to each other.
