Keep Meg & Amy From Cooking Party

There are streamers over the door and glitter is flung generously (if randomly) about over countertops. (To be on the safe side, the girls have used edible glitter, like that on the cookies they handed out as invitations.)

There are large signs posted above the stoves and ovens with picture of Meg and Amy and the words "NOT ALLOWED" in large and bright red letters below them.

It can only mean one thing.

There's a party in the kitchen, and someone has got to keep these girls from cooking.

Gil, though tempted, shakes his head. "No, let them play," he says. "I've put up some anti-food-poisoning charms and the rats are filling the bar orders quietly around the edges."

He nods. "It'll be cool. Thanks, Boromir."

He takes a sneaky gander at Boromir while he isn't looking because big tough warriors are always worth a quick ogle.

"Then I will let them, er, play." He sighs. "And help clean up afterwards."

"Only if they finish while it's still your shift," Gil says. "Unless you really want some overtime pay? This may be a lot of fun but I don't want any of my staff inconvenienced more than absolutely necessary."

"I don't mind helping. I suspect more hands will be necessary."

"That's very good of you," Gil says, smiling. "Wear your festive apron with pride and - um - try to enjoy yourself. That's what parties are for after all."

He pats Boromir's arm.

"I will try."

He does not look confident in the possibility.

Gil feels that Boromir looking less than confident is a very worrying thing.

He nudges him gently. "What's wrong?" he murmurs.

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have little experience with kitchens." He glances at Amy and Meg. "And less with young women."

[identity profile] gil-whimple.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Well you've been a very satisfactory worker in my kitchen," Gil assures him. "Calm reliable and courteous. And young women aren't that different from young men, just a bit - shriller."

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Boromir laughs outloud. "I will remember that, then. And thank you."

[identity profile] gil-whimple.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"My pleasure. You should laugh more often," Gil says. "It suits you."

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
"I do, here," he says, still smiling.

[identity profile] gil-whimple.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Gil looks at him for a moment, soft-eyed, and gives a little inward sigh then says, "I'm going to abandon you to this lot for a bit. I promised to join Sooty by the fire for tea but if you want backup just send a rat for me and I'll come, okay. A professional kitchen is no place for messing around but so far they seem fairly sensible."

He offers his hand gravely but with a spark of mischief in his eyes. "Good luck."

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Send a search party if I go missing, please," Boromir says with twitching lips, solemnly shaking Gil's hand.

[identity profile] gil-whimple.livejournal.com 2006-01-29 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Gil winks. "I'll come and find you myself. Who knows - you might have found a place we can both hide? Oops," he covered his mouth with his hand. "I never said that, right?"

He grins and heads for the fire and Sooty.

[ooc: thanks for the play - bedtime for me]

Boromir wonders what Gil would possibly want to hide from, then goes back to trying to keep the girls from setting themselves on fire.

[ooc: no problem! *hug*]
