Keep Meg & Amy From Cooking Party

There are streamers over the door and glitter is flung generously (if randomly) about over countertops. (To be on the safe side, the girls have used edible glitter, like that on the cookies they handed out as invitations.)

There are large signs posted above the stoves and ovens with picture of Meg and Amy and the words "NOT ALLOWED" in large and bright red letters below them.

It can only mean one thing.

There's a party in the kitchen, and someone has got to keep these girls from cooking.

Door pokes her head through the door.

"Hullo," she says. "Is anything wrong? It's awfully noisy back here, for a morning."

"Hello," says Amy brightly. "We're trying to keep from cooking. You're welcome to help. I'm Amy, and that" she waves breezily at the ballerina on the table, "is Meg. Apron?"

This apron is fuschia and covered in ducks. The ducks are a mustardy sort of yellow, and wearing funny hats.

Door takes the apron, eyes it for a moment, and then grins and ties it around her waist.

"I'm Door. Very pleased to meet you, Amy! But if you're trying to keep from cooking, why are you doing it in the kitchen?"

"Oh! You're Door. Tom and Ingress have mentioned you. It's so lovely to finally get to meet you."

The smile just got brighter.

"Well, we succumb to temptation ever so easily," she says (not entirely truthfully), "so we thought the best thing to do would be to invite everyone else to use the kitchen, and then we couldn't."

It makes sense. If you're Amy. Or Meg.

Door bites her lip.

"Tom and Ingress have probably mentioned you then, but they - well, Ingress especially - mention so many people. But I shan't forget you now that I've met you, I promise."

Amy gives Door a "Don't worry about it" wave of her hand.

"There are so many people here I have trouble keeping up with the ones I have met sometimes, let alone the ones who have only been mentioned to me. But Ingress is a dear. You must be very very proud of her. And Tom, I think, is one of the best people I know."

Door beams.

"She is, isn't she? I'm extraordinarily proud of her, yes. And I must agree with you about Tom. And really," she adds with a mischevious smile, "anyone who likes them so much must be alright."

"Then we should get along beautifully, because I would say the same thing, without hesitation."

"Well, that's settled, then," Door says firmly. "We're just going to have to be friends, like it or not."

"But I can't see any reason why we shouldn't like it, so that shouldn't be a problem at all."

She give Door a very serious look. "I am afraid, however, that I shall have to ask you one thing. It's terribly important, you see."

A moment, and then a very very bright grin.

"Can you cook?"

Door appears to think very hard.

"Well, Ingress and Gavroche claim that I make 'the bestest chocolate chip cookies in the whole world'. Will that do?"

"Splendidly. And Ingress is clearly a cookie connosieur. She introduced me to snickerdoodles. So her opinion will have to be taken as fact."

"I don't know that she's tried quite all of the cookies in the world, but she's certainly tried many," Door agrees. "So the general idea is that I go over there and take up space so that there's no room for you and Meg?"

"Precisely. Because we are so dreadful and cooking and we will keep trying, you see."

She leans forwards and confides, "Besides, this place quite needed a party, don't you think?"

"Well, I don't know about the place, but I certainly needed one, and so I shall party with a will," Door says with a certain degree of girlish glee.

"Excellent. Well, then I'm very glad you came to see what was going on."

"As am I," Door agrees. "I shall go bake cookies now, in order to aid you in your avoidance of floury disaster."

She grins at Amy and heads off toward the counter.
