Keep Meg & Amy From Cooking Party

There are streamers over the door and glitter is flung generously (if randomly) about over countertops. (To be on the safe side, the girls have used edible glitter, like that on the cookies they handed out as invitations.)

There are large signs posted above the stoves and ovens with picture of Meg and Amy and the words "NOT ALLOWED" in large and bright red letters below them.

It can only mean one thing.

There's a party in the kitchen, and someone has got to keep these girls from cooking.

Nope, *Meg says cheerfully.*

It's pretty easy to tell - you know, seeing as we're both girls. And neither of us are wizards. Or fauns.

*She stretches out a decidedly human leg, to demonstrate.*

Boromir is a prince.

He is also a soldier.

Somewhere between this, he still has no idea what to do at the sight of a shapely leg.

"Er. So. Are you new kitchen employees?"

- oh, no, *Meg says, with a giggle.* Dieu, the bar would never forgive Bernard for hiring us - no, we're just borrowing the kitchen, for now.

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
He looks at them, looks at the pictures, and looks back at Meg.

"Borrowing it for what? Because it would appear you are forbidden to use the stove, the ingredients and the facilities. And it would be terrible if you broke the rules, would it not?"
balletrat: (schemingmeg)

[personal profile] balletrat 2006-01-28 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
We're borrowing it, *Meg explains, patiently,* so other people can stop us using them.

After all, we're hardly going to have the willpower on our own. So the idea is that everyone else comes to use the stove, ingrediens and the facilities instead.

*She beams at him, with an expression that says, 'see? It makes perfect sense'.*

"Simply staying out of the kitchen is not an option, I take it."

Meg looks at him, wide-eyed.

"But that would be far too easy."

Beat.

"- I'm Meg, by the by."

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I am Boromir," he says with an automatic bow, "and this has the makings of a great disaster. Were I able to cook more than camp provisions I would, perhaps, help."
balletrat: (smirkmeg)

[personal profile] balletrat 2006-01-28 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
*Meg considers hopping off the table, in order to curtsey.

- but that's no fun, so instead, she climbs up onto the table, and does her curtsey from there.*

Camp provisions still puts you way ahead of us, *she says, with a laugh.* So you'll fit right in.

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
He blinks a few times at the tabletop curtsey, but he's quite charmed. "An honor, miss.

"You wish to make sweets? Is that the plan?" He picks up a Brssel sprout and sniffs it doubtfully.

Well, *Meg says, cheerfully,* we enjoy experimenting.

- the grapefruit icing we did actually didn't turn out all that bad, *she adds, earnestly.* It was only the cookies we put it on.

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
". . . what is a grapefruit?"

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Very nice to meet you, Amy." He takes the grapefruit and inspects it. "It smells very good. I don't think it would make an appetizing sweet, however."

[personal profile] balletrat 2006-01-28 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised, *Meg says, seriously.*

When you add enough sugar -

which, okay, admittedly is kind of a lot, but -

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
"When I was a boy, we sometimes had little tarts with a bit of preserved fruit in the center. I wonder if that would be possible. They were usually sweet fruits. Strawberries, peaches, that sort of thing."

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
"They must be more difficult than I expected. Perhaps I would not have eaten so many as a child, had I known."

He's not laughing at them. He'd never dream of it.

Kids never appreciate the work that goes into these things, *Meg agrees, shaking her head sadly.

Clearly it was a traumatic experience for her. How would anyone dare laugh at it?*

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"What went wrong with your attempt at the tarts?"

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am Boromir," he says, bowing his head with a small smile.

I think I can say we're both pleased to meet you -

*Meg grins at him.*

- so would you like an apron?

[identity profile] sonofwhitecity.livejournal.com 2006-01-28 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He looks at the aprons. "Are they necessary?"
