Keep Meg & Amy From Cooking Party

There are streamers over the door and glitter is flung generously (if randomly) about over countertops. (To be on the safe side, the girls have used edible glitter, like that on the cookies they handed out as invitations.)

There are large signs posted above the stoves and ovens with picture of Meg and Amy and the words "NOT ALLOWED" in large and bright red letters below them.

It can only mean one thing.

There's a party in the kitchen, and someone has got to keep these girls from cooking.

Ingredients and Cooking

There is a dizzying array of ingredients and cooking utensils spread out on the counter. There is also a book, Basic Cookery, which has been highly decorated (with glitter, of course) and given a place of honor, as a source of inspiration.

Come over, cook something, or just watch (and talk to) your fellow guests as they do so.

Mal immediately gets to work broiling a nice steak - medium rare, thank you - in preparation for the rest of his dish, humming a song in Mandarin and wiping his hands down the front of his pants even though he's got a towel to do so with hanging out one pocket.

A pale, white-haired young man takes some carrots and begins peeling them into a garbage bag. He's wearing a frighteningly pink apron, decorated with pictures of sunglasses, over a black sweater and black jeans; his eyes are shielded by dark glasses.

Turning to the other man, he says, "Hallo. I don't think we've met. My name is Bran."

"Mal Reynolds; pleased to meet ya --" Mal eyes Bran's carrots, with, "You working on something for yourself or would you be wantin' to peel some o' those for me too?"

"I am making stew, but if you would like some I can peel more. Plenty of vegetables about. What are you cooking?"

"Makin' chili and rice, but I was thinkin' some carrots on the side - we could mix the two, actually," Mal ponders. "The stew and chili with rice."

"Well, might be a bit too heavy, actually...What do you think?"

With two small children about, Door has become an expert at baking cookies. Therefore, she grabs a bowl and a bag of flour and begins to measure.

"Wotcher, Door," Gil says, setting a cauldron on the table and flipping open a potions recipe book.

"Busy. You know what it's like here at the best of times but lately it's been manic," Gil smiles at her. "And how have you been, my lady? How's young Ingress? I haven't seen her recently either. Or Mr Riddle."

A white-skinned, white-haired young man in a black sweater and jeans, dark sunglasses and a hideously pink apron comes over to watch. "Hallo. My name is Bran. May I ask what it is you are cooking?"

"Nice to meet you, Bran. I'm Door. These are chocolate chip cookies - or will be, eventually, anyway. Would you like to help?"

"And they have also roped in Bran Davies. Can you tell me, enlightened sir, what you are making?"

Hey, Amy said that he could. So Bran has a wooden spoon gestured somewhere near him in a vaugely reporter-looking fashion.

"Enlightened sir? There's a new mode of address, now," Bran says, pushing chopped celery from a cutting board into a large bowl. "Beef stew, it is. Nothing special. It is good to see you."

"I'm being the commentator. Amy said I could, as I told her I'd cook worse then she and Meg do." The wooden spoon is withdrawn, and then twirled in one hand.

"Good to see you too, boyo."

Felix utterly ignores the book, instead obtaining a large number of potatoes. Some he chops, some he carves, some he sticks into pans of water to boil, some he wraps in foil...

Potatoes!

Armed with The Book, Boromir starts collecting ingredients and tools.

People cook all the time. It can't be that difficult.
