Room 203, Midmorning, December 13
Room 203 is, this morning, full of sunshine, greenery, bright ribbons, and general cheerful Christmas chaos.
Amy is sitting in the floor, not far from her chest of drawers (one drawer has a sign on it that reads "Christmas Things -- Do NOT Open And I'll Know If You Do, Caspian!"). She's wrapping something in bright paper and half-heartedly fighting with Mr. Pemberthy for a length of red ribbon.
Christmas is coming, and things here are quite merry and bright.

"It's my pleasure," he says, cheerfully. "After all, you needed a tree for your party, didn't you?"
The tree gets picked up by the stump, and he looks at the girls.
"If you two would take the tip, we'll get it back without losing too many needles."

"Oh, dear," she says, cheerfully, as they start back. "We've all got our hands rather too full for snowballs, haven't we?"

"Perhaps I'm lulling you into a false sense of security."
But probably not.
