A Letter, for Caspian, Dated September 21

An envelope, addressed to His Majesty, King Caspian X of Narnia, sealed with pale purple wax stamped with an unnecessarily elaborate A, and containing a letter, reading as follows:

Her Serene and Royal Highness, the Princess Amethyst Alexandra Augusta Araminta Adelaide Aurelia Anne, of the Royal House of Phanffaria and the Kingdom of Phantasmorania, to His Majesty Caspian the Tenth, sometimes called Seafarer, by the gift of Aslan, by election, by prescription, and by conquest, King over Narnia, Emperor of the Lone Islands, Lord of Cair Paravel, and Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Lion, Greetings and Salutations. Also, Hello.

Whereas it has come to my attention that His Majesty has not left this place, Milliways, the Bar at the End of the Universe, sometimes called simply the Bar, for some time; and whereas he has expressed an interest in seeing other lands and places; and whereas the blackberries, hazelnuts, and thorn apples are coming into season, it is with sincere pleasure that I do extend unto His Majesty this invitation, which I do desire he should do me the great honor and kind compliment of accepting, should his schedule permit and his inclination persuade him so to do.

His Majesty is, therefore, hereby invited to accompany me, should he so choose, on a picnic, in that portion of the Forest of Faraway closest to Amber, capital city and jewel of Ambergeldar, some eight days hence, on the twenty-ninth day of the month of September, in this the twenty-fifth year of the reign of His Majesty the King Hulderbrand of Phantasmorania and the thirteenth year of the reign of His Majesty King Algernon of Ambergeldar, at half gone noon precisely.
